ABOUT US

Open Hearts – We practice compassionate ministry to those in need through our ongoing ministry to feed the hungry, through special projects such as ‘Back to School Backpacks’ for kids in need, through our connection with the West Ohio Conference’s Russia partnership and through Nothing But Nets, a joint partnership with the NBA and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  Our hearts are especially open and accepting of those who are lost, struggling, or simply feel a tug on their heart to engage the spiritual nature of this life.

Open Minds – John Wesley, the founder of the early Methodist movement said, ‘In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, diversity; in all things charity’.  Through programs such as Disciple Bible Study and our Sunday morning current events ‘Coffee House’, and seasonal studies, we experience diversity by engaging each other in our different ways of contemplating and living our life, our faith, our vocation, our civic responsibilities and our relationship with God.  We are unified in believing that God is a loving God, actively involved in our lives.  Oakwood United Methodist Church is also a multi-national congregation, with members who have lived in or who have been citizens of countries throughout the world.

Open Doors – Oakwood United Methodist Church opens its doors to be used by the community for the enrichment of not just the soul, but also the mind and body through such programs as basketball, scouts for girls and boys, MentorConnect, Mom’s groups, homeschooling groups, and educational summer camps. We accept non-member weddings and funerals as well.   As we support the community, we find that the community enriches us.
